Fruit and Vegetable “Bugs”

I was recently asked by a friend that works for our local American Heart Association to come up with some healthy snack food for young kids. This one was a lot of fun and we all know food has to be fun if you’re trying to convince a small person to chose fruits and vegetables over chips and junk food.

Ingredients:

  • 1 rib celery, cut into three 2 ½” pieces

  • 3 slices apple

  • 2 T. nut butter

  • 3 pretzel sticks, broken in ½

Directions:

  1. Put nut butter into a sandwich bag and gently squeeze into one corner. Cut the tip off the corner and gently squeeze nut butter along the inside of the celery.

  2. Press the tip of the pretzel sticks into the front of the celery boat.

  3. Either cut an apple slice in half and use to make wings of butterfly or decorate with a swirl to make a snail.
