A little about
Gabrielle Jones
Gabrielle Jones earned a degreed in Foods and Nutrition from SDSU on May 15, 2015. She also moonlights as a healthy recipe demonstrator and nutrition speaker for the San Diego chapter of the American Heart Association. She loves food and fitness and wants to inspire others to take charge of their lives and make health a priority. Her goal is to change the idea of what healthy looks like and make a difference in the lives of people around her.
Gabrielle Jones was pursing a career as a firefighter paramedic with San Diego Fire and Life Safety when her father unexpectedly passed away in 2002. After a few years of healing and self exploration she went back to school to pursue a degree in the health field. While taking classes at San Diego Mesa College with the intention of studying nursing she reluctantly enrolled in a nutrition course and fell in love. Nutrition seemed to combine her love for helping others and her fascination with the body and it's functions.
Gabrielle transfered to San Diego State University in the Spring of 2011 and began taking courses to pursue a degree in Foods and Nutrition. After careful consideration of each avenue of the field of nutrition fit her best, she decided to enroll in the didactic program in dietetics to complete the necessary courses needed to begin a dietetic internship and become a registered dietitian.
While at SDSU Gabrielle joined the Student Nutrition Organization and began volunteering and exploring fun activities in the commnuity. She also got involved with the San Diego chapter of the American Heart Association and delivered nutrition talks based on their Life's Simple 7 Tips for a healthy life as well as performed several healthy food demonstrations for both children and adults.
In addition to her ample volunteer experience Gabrielle further prepared herself for a career in dietetics by taking a job as a diet clerk for Sharp Coronado Hospital and worked with both acute and long term care patients. She learned the importance of proper nutrition for wound healing as well as adapting to nutritional challenges as disease states progress. This experience was invaluable for becoming comfortable with patient interaction and learning how to best assess the needs of individuals.
In her last year at SDSU, Gabrielle held the position of Web and Social Media Manager of the SDSU Student Nutrition Organization for the 2014-2015 academic year. She helped to facilitate the 2nd Annual Kids Eat Right Silent Auction and Dinner Gala which raised over $3,000 to benefit the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Kids Eat Right campaign which aims to end childhood obesity within one generation. SDSU S.N.O. was recognized by the AND for the second year in a row for their efforts. That same year they also received an award from the MS Society for Student Organization of the Year after 15 years of dedication and won an award for Aztecs Rock Hunger after donating 4,246 pounds of food to the Jacob's Cushman San Diego Food Bank for their annual food drive.
In her spare time, Gabrielle enjoys pottery, gardening, spending time with friends and family, and spending time in nature.
