Farmer’s Markets

After reading “Animal, Vegetable, Miracle” and “The Omnivore’s Dilemma” I started to think more about the food I eat.

Do you know where your food comes from? I bet most people don’t even think about it. They just go to the grocery store and pick up whatever they need without even thinking about the people that slave in the hot sun to provide the fruits and vegetables we enjoy every day.

A great way to see the faces of the people that put those foods on your table is to go to Farmer’s Markets. There are tons of them all over San Diego. If you like fresh organic produce there really isn’t any other way to go. We should be eating what is in season when it’s in season and keeping food close to home. The slow food movement is on the rise as it should be. People would be so much healthier and food would cost much less if we consumed what was grown locally and was in season.

Put your money where you mouth is and help local farmers. Your community and your family will thank you. To find a market in your area go to: http://www.sdfarmbureau.org/BuyLocal/Farmers-Markets.php
